Tiberias to Moshava Kinneret with Al-Hashvil, guided by Avi Farjioun

It’s been a wonderful year on the Israel Trail. I hiked nine trail segments (missed one due to injury) — from Kibbutz Dan to Moshava Kinneret. I saw and learned about sites I had never seen before, and rediscovered places I had not visited for many years.
The final hike of the season was an easy 10-kilometer walk, mostly downhill, and much of it on paved surfaces. We started in Tiberias shortly after 7 a.m. The plan was to finish by noon and avoid the blistering afternoon heat.
Throughout the morning we enjoyed stunning views of the Sea of Galilee (the Kinneret). Our hike was punctuated by stops at vista points.
First rest stop of the day, with a view overlooking Tiberias.
A new lookout point on the trail.
Another view across Tiberias and the Kinneret.
Most of the time there was very little shade.
Much of the trail was asphalt. I was much happier when the trail was a softer, dirt track.
The meadows have turned brown. Except for the purple thistles, there were no more wildflowers adding color to the landscape.
And another vista point.
The highlight of the day — a rest stop at Ein Poriya. Ten minutes of soaking my feet in the cool water was a treat.
The final descent.
We completed our hike and hiking season at Moshava Kinneret.
The homes along the main street preserve (or replicate) those of the original settlement, built well over a century ago.
Finally, a word of gratitude to my third-cousin and gal-pal Tia. A year ago she persuaded me to join an Israel Trail hiking group. Her dream was to start hiking. My dream was to complete what I started over a decade ago. It’s been a great adventure. We will be back. Next fall. Season 2. Stay tuned!
