Much to my dismay, the Middle East once again erupted in war, just two days after I returned from an Israel Trail hike at the end of February 2026. Sirens and other interruptions made it impossible for me to focus. It took me a week to edit my photos and another week to write this blog post. The physical challenge of this 2-day hike from the Negev to the Arava was offset by the joy in experiencing the "super bloom" of wildflowers caused by abundant rains this winter.

Segment 28 – Dvir(a) to Sansana *   "The way you spend New Years is the way you'll spend the rest of the year." A friend of mine posted that message on Facebook on New Year's day. If that message is true, well then, I can expect to be doing a lot more hiking on the Israel Trail this year, and in the company of wonderful friends. Despite last minute cancellations from my regular hiking companions, and the threat of rain, I did not want to postpone this hike a second time.
